International Women’s Day – Maeve Allen (FPS)

Meet Maeve Allen, Project Manager within the Business Improvement Team in the Family Practitioner Services (FPS).Project Manager within the Business Improvement Team in Family Practitioner Services (FPS).

  • What do you do in your role

In my role, I work collaboratively with FPS service areas and a broad range of stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement and the delivery of meaningful, sustainable change. This includes leading projects that strengthen governance practices, maximise operational capacity, and support the adoption of technologies and processes that streamline service delivery and provide long term value for the public purse. A core focus of my work is improving the overall delivery experience for FPS teams, as well as customer and service users, by ensuring services are efficient, well designed, and responsive to need.

I am also a Health and Wellbeing Champion, working closely with our social committee to deliver initiatives that prioritise the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of our team. This includes helping to coordinate quarterly FPS wide coffee mornings, step challenges, Action Cancer health checks, workplace wellness days, and team building events. My aim is to help foster a supportive, connected workplace culture where people feel valued and able to thrive.

  • How long have you worked in BSO?

I joined BSO in September 2021, initially as an agency employee, before moving into a permanent role in June 2023. Having worked across both the public and private sectors, my time in BSO has been an especially positive experience. While I genuinely enjoy the work itself, a significant part of that enjoyment comes from the people I work alongside, particularly the inspiring and supportive women throughout FPS.

  • How do you feel you make a difference to Health and Social Care

Many of the services delivered within FPS underpin the delivery of primary care within Northern Ireland. While not all of our services involve direct patient contact, they provide vital support to practitioners and contractors, ultimately ensuring that patients can access the care they need. Having previously been a nurse, I am particularly motivated to ensure the services we provide are safe, accessible, compliant, and cost effective. My role enables me to focus on achieving these key principles, and while progress can be challenging, it is extremely rewarding when meaningful change is implemented and the benefits are realised. In addition, many of the transformation projects I support aim to remove barriers within teams and introduce better ways of working, making day to day tasks easier to deliver and helping staff feel more empowered in their work.
