The Information Unit within the Family Practitioner Services (FPS) Directorate of the Business Services Organisation provides statistical and research support to BSO and other HSCNI bodies as well as the Department of Health.

Our main customers are the Strategic Planning and Performance Group of the Department of Health (previously the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) with whom we have a Service Level Agreement.

The staff in the Information Unit are seconded from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).

Honest Broker Service

We also host the Honest Broker Service in conjunction with the BSO Regional Data Warehouse.

The aim of the Honest Broker Service is to enable non-identifiable data to be safely shared to maximise the uses and health service benefits which can be gained from it, including planning, commissioning of services and public health monitoring. The HBS enables access to anonymised, aggregated and in some cases pseudonymised health and social care data to the DoH, HSC organisations and for anonymised data for health and social care related research.
