JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Information Governance and Data Protection will fulfil the role of Data Protection Officer for the BSO and will facilitate compliance of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act (2018). As Data Protection Officer, the post holder will have direct access to give advice to senior management regarding personal data processing.
He/she will provide expert advice and guidance to the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO), Deputy SIRO and Information Asset Owners (IAO’s) as well as the BSO Personal Data Guardian in the discharge of their duties.
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning and Development
1 Lead the development and implementation of the Health and Social Care records strategy and an information governance framework for the BSO.
2 Manage and provide strategic leadership for the Information Governance and Records function within the BSO.
3 Develop and maintain good working relationships at all levels internal and external to the BSIO to achieve organisational objectives.
Service Delivery
1 Manage the Information Governance Team/function and act as Freedom of Information Practitioner and Data Protection Officer for the BSO.
2 Responsible for providing specialist advice on current legislation, guidance and best practice on issues relating to health and social care records and information governance. The post holder must keep abreast of new developments, legislation, case law, codes of practice and guidance and ICT developments through appropriate networks in the area of records management, information governance and research and identify any implications for the BSO and put into operation any necessary changes.
3 Lead the implementation of all aspects of the Information Governance Framework across the BSO directorates.
4 Make sure there is a consistent approach to Information Governance in the BSO by coordinating and liaising with staff responsible for other aspects of the Information Governance agenda e.g. IT Security, Corporate Communications and Data Quality.
