Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

The Core Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) will combine the seven regional information applications used within HSC Pathology onto a single, regional platform. When this programme is completed, HSCNI will have in place a significantly modernised, improved, and rationalised Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This will bring benefits of improved clinical care, reduction of risk and inequality, with the capability to support wider organisational change taking place within HSCNI.

The Programme will be delivered through collaborative partnerships both across the HSC network and with the supplier, CliniSys. This WinPath Enterprise Solution will underpin the delivery of pathology diagnostic and monitoring services, supporting all relevant regulatory requirements.

In November 2023, the first go-lives of the CoreLIMS Project took place in both Belfast and South Eastern Health and Social Care Trusts.

The next phase of the CoreLIMS Project went live at the Northern Health and Social Care Trust in October 2024.

The CoreLIMS Project will continue to roll-out across all the Trusts in 2025.

Monday the 21st October 2024 saw the successful go-live of Phase 3 of the CoreLIMS Project which included delivery of the Cervical Cytology and primary HPV module.

To highlight this key moment for the provision of digital health transformation, we interviewed Jennifer Welsh (NIPIMS SRO) and Karin Jackson (CoreLIMS SRO) in the Institute of Pathology laboratory building, Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.
