On Tuesday 24 March, colleagues from Business Services Organisation (BSO) attended the SistersIN Celebratory event in the ICC in Belfast.
SistersIN is a Northern Ireland-based charity that empowers sixth-form girls through an 8-month leadership development programme, combining mentorship, project experience, and career exploration.
BSO currently have mentors who have been supporting students over the course of five meetings, providing guidance on projects they are undertaking.
There are advantages for both BSO as an organisation, mentors and mentees.
- Talent Pipeline Development: Engaging with sixth-form girls helps companies inspire and attract future talent early, especially those who may not have considered careers in Health IT.
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Supporting youth leadership and gender equality aligns with BSO/ NHS CSR goals and demonstrates a commitment to community development.
- Visibility and Reputation: Participation enhances BSO’s public image as a champion of diversity, inclusion, and education.
- Fresh Perspectives: Students often bring new ideas and viewpoints during projects, which can spark innovation and challenge conventional thinking.
At the event, BSO hosted a stand for students to learn more about BSO, the student and graduate placement schemes and the careers available.
The event included speeches from both the First Minister, Michelle O’Neill and the Deputy First Minister, Emma Little-Pengelly. The day also included panel discussions with a variety of speakers all set to inspire the next generation of female leaders.
In February, the BSO mentors hosted a virtual ‘Shadow Day’ where their mentees had a chance to meet with other influential leaders within the organisation to learn about their roles and career paths.
