CoreLIMS impact by Geoff Kennedy, Laboratory Manager, SHSCT

7 May 2025

On 28th April 2025 the last cutover from the old LIMS system to the new WinPath Enterprise Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) took place in the Western Health and Social Care Trust and Southern Health and Social Care Trust meaning that CoreLIMS is now fully operational in all 5 Trusts and NIBTS.

On 8th May 2025 the Go-LIVES of encompass will take place in the same Trusts and it was essential that the Core LIMS system goes live first.

As part of the Core LIMS go-lives we caught up with one of the main figures behind the scenes, Geoff Kennedy, Laboratory Manager, SHSCT on what the go-live means to him and how the change will impact on service delivery.

Watch the short video where Geoff highlights how crucial an effective and efficient laboratory system is for the Southern Trust and Western Trust.

With 95% of patient pathways involving the laboratories and 75% of all diagnoses dependent on a laboratory result, the new LIMS will deliver a safer service to Trusts, GPs and will ultimately improve clinical outcomes for patients in Northern Ireland.

Geoff thanked his staff for their hard work during this period and also hashtag CoreLIMS colleagues for their support in carrying out this successful transition.
