Join Business Services Organisation and make a difference in your financial / accountancy career. BSO Finance Directorate are recruiting for Band 6 Accountants to join their team. Want to know more? Take a minute to find out how Aisling makes a difference to Health and Social Care Services across Northern Ireland with BSO.

1.When did you join BSO?

I joined BSO over 12 years ago in September 2011. I knew that I wanted to work in the Health Service and after discovering that practice wasn’t for me I applied for a Finance Officer role in the Income, Banking and Control Team in BSO. I learnt so much in this role and from everyone within the Finance Directorate. With the support from BSO I also completed my professional qualifications which enabled me to get a Band 7 role within the Client Accounting team before reaching my current position as a Band 8a Senior Management Accountant in the Financial Management team.

2.What is your role and how do you make a difference to HSCNI?

I am a Senior Management accountant within the BSO Finance Directorate.  I oversee the production of financial management information including the preparation of budgets, monthly management accounts and preparation of financial forecasts.  This work supports BSO in the achievement of annual financial and statutory targets including meeting our breakeven target.  Working closely with my team we ensure budget holders receive the relevant financial information and support which enables them to deliver their services to our HSC customers and ultimately to the NI population

3.What do you enjoy about your work and what do you find rewarding?

The Finance Directorate is a great place to work. I work with a great team of finance professionals who support, encourage and laugh with each other daily. I have formed great relationships not only with my finance colleagues but with colleagues across BSO and HSCNI, who I work with closely with. I love the diversity of my role. Working with all the different areas across BSO allows for a variety of work, each with their own challenges, issues or concerns that I get to work on and support them with and I love to see the outcomes of this work.

4.Why should someone work in BSO Finance?

BSO finance are an excellent team who encourage and support you on every step of your career. In my time in BSO, I have been given opportunities to grow and develop my skill set and progress my career from a Band 3 to my current managerial role. All while learning from, and supported by an excellent senior management team who encourage staff at all levels to continue learning and progressing throughout their financial careers. My role at times can be challenging and like most jobs can also be routine, however there are always changes and new challenges to be met which we all face as a team and learn, develop and grow from the outcomes. Throughout my roles in finance I have developed relationships across the organisation, engaged in collaborative working with colleagues in the Trusts and had excellent networking opportunities. I have been supported throughout my professional exams and have gained knowledge and experience across all financial functions during my time at BSO.

5.What are the benefits to someone working in BSO?

There are a number of benefits to staff working in BSO. Some of these benefits include flexible working, agile working, a generous annual leave pack and pension benefits. Staff are also supported throughout their financial careers to complete their external exams, including time to study and generous starting salaries. All of these benefits have helped me achieve a good work life balance, managing a challenging career while ensuring I get time with my family.
