Office for Research Ethics Committees Northern Ireland (ORECNI)20th Anniversary Event

The Business Services Organisation Office for Research Ethics Committees Northern Ireland (ORECNI) held a training and networking event for HSC Research Ethics Committee members on the 22 November in Malone House, Belfast.

The event focused on Ethical Challenges and Emerging Healthcare Technologies, and also marked the 20 year anniversary of ORECNI and the HSC RECs.

Speakers included Dr Frances Burns (HSC Data Institute) and Alan Harbinson (Head of the Honest Broker Service, BSO) who presented on the secondary use of data and legislative framework in NI; Prof. Michaela Black (School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems, Ulster University) who discussed some of the ethical issues associated with healthcare research and Artificial Intelligence (AI); and Ms Soo Hun (Innovation & Digital Eco-System Lead, Digital Health & Care NI) talked the use of Apps and implications for ethical review.
