Success for BSO Legal Services (DLS) placement students, Dominic O’Neill and Tomas Murdoch

27 March 2024

On Monday 18th March, placement students in Business Services Organisation (BSO) Legal Services (DLS), Dominic O’Neill and Tomas Murdoch headed to London to compete in the Ulster University Moot Competition. The pair were victorious and returned to the office with a trophy and big smiles.

A “Moot” is a mock court scenario where the team of two are either a respondent or appellant to a scenario, usually a High Court appeal. The teams are given time to prepare their legal arguments then present these to a judge. This is the first year since Covid that the Ulster University have been offered the Supreme Court and lucky for the students, this year they got to present in front of a Supreme Court judge, who also happened to be from Northern Ireland.

There were 3 stages prior to the final, with Dominic and Tomas starting off facing 19 other teams and eventually defeating last year’s winners in the semi-final to reach the finals in London.

Dominic and Tomas are both placement students in BSO Legal Services (DLS) and are enjoying getting the experience outside of classrooms and textbooks.

Congratulations to Dominic and Tomas on their fantastic achievement, we wish them all the best in their future legal careers.
