It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of our Business Services Organisation (BSO) ITS colleague Godfrey Thompson on 30th October.
Godfrey was a colleague, mentor and friend to many of us in the NIDIS and NIPIMS Programmes. He was always ready to provide advice, guidance and wise counsel, usually delivered with a good dash of wit and humour!
Godfrey initially joined the NIDIS Programme as Test Manager, where he used his extensive experience and knowledge of testing large ICT systems to establish and build a test team capable of dealing with the challenges of testing a complex technical solution. Godfrey’s preferred management style was that of mentor and coach, allowing space for and providing support and guidance to his team to help them learn and develop in their roles.
In more recent times Godfrey accepted a permanent role as Test Manager for the NIPIMS Programme, he brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new colleagues.
Godfrey’s funeral took place Saturday 2nd November, at The Middle Church in Ballinderry, a lovely old church dating from the 1600’s. While it was a sad occasion, Godfrey’s family delivered a beautiful tribute and celebration of his life, as husband, father, grandfather, work colleague and close friend.
Godfrey was a valued colleague, and friend, he will be greatly missed by many at BSO ITS.
Godfreys colleagues in ITS will be holding a coffee morning in James House on Wednesday 29th January in memory of him with all proceeds going to NI Hospice.
